The Safety Workshop: Roles & Responsibilities

This course explores the key roles and responsibilities of a safety professional in various industries. Students will gain a solid understanding of workplace safety principles, compliance standards, risk management practices, and leadership skills required to ensure a safe work environment.

Meet the Presenters:

 Julio Fierro, CHST, CRIS, SHEP is the Lead Instructor for the Safety Academy with more than 20 years of hands-on experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS). He has supported a wide range of high-profile construction projects, from mid-rise buildings to complex, multimillion-dollar developments, including Block 185, Circuit of the Americas (F1 Racetrack), Samsung Taylor Fab 1, hospitals, and college football stadiums. Julio brings deep expertise in developing and implementing safety programs and managing risk across contracts and operations. His experience also includes overseeing incident investigations, managing various types of claims, and leading policy development, updates, and implementation. He is passionate about coaching and mentoring safety professionals and sharing his real-world experience with the next generation of safety professionals, as well as with anyone seeking a better understanding of the challenges within the safety industry and practical strategies to address them.

Daniel Oates is a Senior Project Manager at Flintco with more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 2002 with a degree in Construction Science and began his career in Dallas before moving to Austin in 2004 when he joined Flintco. In addition to managing projects, Daniel is involved in Flintco’s preconstruction services and hosts the company’s podcast, “Flintco Talks.” Through the podcast, he provides insights into the latest trends and innovations in commercial construction and topics around mental health affecting the industry. Outside of work, Daniel enjoys golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family. He is an active parent who never misses his kids’ school events. With more than two decades of construction expertise and a passion for collaborating with clients, Daniel continues to be an invaluable member of the Flintco team.
